De Bethune celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. On the occasion of Mexico City’s Salon Internacional Alta Relojería (SIAR), Latin America’s most important annual watch fair, the independent watchmaking brand introduces the 30th calibre: a jumping GMT presented inside the brand’s double-face watch.

The De Bethune double-face watch is back! The DB Kind of Two was presented in 2021 and voted best Tourbillon at GPHG 2021, the Oscars of watchmaking. This time, the model houses a GMT movement, the 30th calibre developed by Denis Flageollet and his team. The technical and aesthetic exercise offers both two identities and practical functions.

A contemporary side highlights mechanics in pure De Bethune style. The original time indication shows hours around on the balance wheel at 6 o’clock while minutes are displayed by an index at the periphery. Dedicated to the GMT, a classic side displays a dial with a finely hand-guilloché central part surrounded by convex levels with characteristic Arabic numerals.

The layout of the functions is based on a double display of hours and minutes on both sides. Firstly, the owner sets the home time on the contemporary side, by means of the crown in position 3 and then the second time zone on the classic GMT side, which is controlled by the crown pulled out to position 2.

Running at 5Hz and with a 4-day power reserve, the hand-wound DB2517 calibre is 30mm in diameter. It also drives a deadbeat second on the classic side. As you have come to expect from De Bethune, the finishing is top notch with a mirror-polished motion works bridge and concave cover plate in grade 5 titanium, a polished and chamfered barrel bridge, hand-snailed barrels, steel parts polished and chamfered by hand.

This 30th De Bethune calibre is housed in a 43.4mm polished grade 5 titanium case with floating lugs playing their role to the full and lending themselves perfectly to the pivoting of the case: the round case flips smoothly on its central axis thanks to small rotating mechanisms made of 28 parts manufactured in stainless materials such as surgical steel or titanium.

The De Bethune DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT is presented on an alligator strap with alligator lining. The pin buckle is in polished grade 5 titanium. The price is set at CHF 195,000.
